About the Foundation
A doctor-led endeavor, the Pittsburgh Lung Cancer Cure Foundation works toward three primary goals.
Awareness
We aim to shine a light on the impact lung cancer has on our community.
Early Detection
We’re working to increase the use of low-dose CT chest scans, which lead to earlier diagnosis and better outcomes.
Research
We raise funds to support ongoing research for improved therapies and, eventually, a cure to lung cancer
“Unfortunately, lung cancer patients are sort of the underdog, because the disease has a negative stigma associated with it,” says Dr. Daniel Petro, founder of the Lung Cancer Cure Foundation. But the foundation is working to change that perception through greater awareness, and to fight the disease itself with increased research, early detection, and bold treatments. “Along with helping patients,” says Dr. Petro, “the goal of the foundation is to collaborate and donate research dollars to any organization doing good work, locally or nationally.” Fundraising efforts include an annual golf outing and a walk/run in the Pittsburgh area, events which serve to raise not only funding for research, but also awareness and support within the community.
The Pittsburgh Lung Cancer Cure Foundation is where patients come for care, compassion, and a cure. It’s a place where the most challenging time in their lives becomes a little less stressful and much more hopeful—not just for the patients, but for the doctors who serve them, and the families who love them. At the Pittsburgh Lung Cancer Cure Foundation, we’re all in it together.
